Mark

Known Since: 1986

Resides In: Virginia (Somewhere)

I met Mark through Kevin. In fact, even after he was my friend, Kevin referred to him in conversations to me as his friend Mark, not just Mark, for like a year, like he had to remind me who he was. Mark had a truck, so we got to know each other through Kevin always calling him for a ride over to my place. He, too, was a high school senior when we all met. Mark was just a crack up, with a really pragmatic view of the world. He was also master of many funny voices and it was he who actually started the "mom joke" craze within our group that lasted until...no, wait, we still make mom jokes. Mark has always hated pretentiousness of any kind, and calls things like he sees them. Mark's also a very talented artist and photographer, and eventually left us to head off to Georgia and go to college to grow in these areas further. It was Mark's last night before leaving, in fact, where the famous Mission Park bench photo was taken, a perfect frozen moment in time of an era. Of course it was a great picture...Mark took it (hence, him not being in the photo). We'd see Mark again when he came home for summers or vacations. Eventually he all but disappeared on us, but was recently located again, living in Virginia. Mark's a very artistic guy who varies between laughing at life and being really annoyed at it, and I look forward to the day when we can hook up again and talk over old times. And make mom jokes.

Random Me and Mark Memory: Hanging out at his house watching Silver Bullet on cable in the middle of the night, and a shot came on of an alarm clock--during an extra suspenseful and scary scene--and we both happened to look up at the cable box clock and notice it was the exact same time. Creeeepy.
