I'm trying to remember if Kris started in my senior year at Sacramento Union Academy or if he showed up late the year our junior year. Either way, high school is where we met. We became friends immediately, with mutual interests in rock music and horror movies. Kris and I were part of our big senior year group of people, and had many a fun weekend with the guys and gals. Kris did have a way with the gals...many years later, he and Rich and I sat around having a talk about girls we had crushes on in high school. It always got annoying when it came back to Kris, because he'd mention a girl, and then add, "But I also dated her." Everybody loved Kris. Total extrovert, and not a bit of duplicity in him. He's one of those people that really are what they appear to be.
After much fun in high school, we continued hanging out through college. Kris, I should add, is also a little crazy and will try just about anything (jumping from a roof into a pool, running naked across a bridge, etc), so there are many Kris stories that would make a fine book one day. Kris is one of those people who seems to be able to get away with anything unscathed, too, which helps. Kris's love of music led to he and I going to many concerts together back during the hair band era, and to him playing in a band ("Wildflower", a name he hated) for a while. I videotaped a couple of their shows, so Kris can one day show his kids he was cool. We hung out a lot at my house, with him, Tim, Wayne, my sister and me (the folks were, at the time, away on a job elsewhere in the state, so it was as crazy time), swimming in the pool, playing Acey Deucy for hours, listening to Pink Floyd and having a good time. But it wasn't all fun and games for Kris. He was going to college the whole time, working toward his eventually realized goal of becoming a dentist. If you knew Kris back in the day, you too would shudder at the idea of him being a dentist, believe me. Along the way he got himself married and started a family, too, and is currently living happy in Auburn, continuing his love of music by playing in a Christian rock band, and enjoying the fact that he's still around after all the crazy stunts and years.
Random Me and Kris Memory: Monsters of Rock concert in Frisco, dude! We came with two hot blondes, then lost them in the crowd of 75,000 on our way into the concert, and didn't see them again until the next day. Smooth, fellas.

If you knew Kris back in the day, you too would be asking what kind of woman could finally tie him down. Well, it ended up being Tami. She and Kris ended up sharing an apartment with another girl during college, and they eventually hooked up...and got married. I was proud to be in that wedding, surrounded by all our high school friends. Tami is, of necessity, a very accepting and patient person (again, she's married to Kris...who's a little bit insane, as we've discussed). She's a lot of fun to be around. I met her for the first time after their engagement, when Kris brought to her Arizona in the summer of '95 to meet me. And we've been friends ever since, and certainly will be for many years to come.
