Joy

Known Since: 1996

Resides In: Citrus Heights, CA

I started working for USAA in January of 1996. On my very first day of training, I met this redhead named Joy. We ended up sitting together at lunch. Then, when ended up sitting together in training class at our computers, which would put us next to each other for the next four weeks. Soon we started talking on the phone at home. Soon that turned into every night on the phone, often for hours. This was just one of those weird, impossible to explain instant friendships. Sometimes it just happens. And I'm so glad this one did. I don't think I've ever gotten closer to someone faster than I did to Joy. We talk about everything. Nothing in our lives is off-topic. I can think of few people that know as much about me as she does. Joy makes that easy, because honesty comes easy to her, and she engenders trust. We've talked each other through a lot of interesting times, especially since when we met, we were both at such transitional points in our lives. I know she was a big part of helping me through my rough time, and I hope I was the same for her. On top of being a great friend, Joy is one of the most unique people I've known. Always thinking, always questioning, seeking new knowledge and experience; spiritual, introspective, occasionally phobic, always positive, brave and wise. In many ways, Joy and I are very different people--which often makes for the best friendships--but at our cores, we're both just trying to find some happiness and figure out the world around us. It's a pleasure to have Joy with me on this journey.

Random Me and Joy Memory: Finding that little outdoor cafe in La Jolla that night and watching the ocean, all while going on, like, 2 hours of sleep.
